THE SHAPE OF THINGS

Theatre On Consignment will continue its 2004-2005 season with “The Shape of Things”, the dark, critically acclaimed drama from Neil LaBute, author of “Bash” and “In The Company of Men”. The play will run February 10-12 and February 18-19 at 8pm and February 20 at 2pm in the Linesight Theatre, located at 143 N. Rock Island on the third floor.

LaBute’s unconventional love story introduces us to Adam (Michael Webber) and Evelyn (Cassiday Proctor). Evelyn is a graduate student; Adam works as a security guard in the university museum. A nerdy wreck around women, Adam finds the affection of Evelyn slowly transforming him into a different person—much to the chagrin of his friends Phillip (Ricki Camargo) and Jenny (Meridith Jones). Anne Marie Serrano directs.

Astounding critics and audiences alike, The Shape of Things premiered amidst a blaze of publicity at London's Almeida Theatre in May 2001 where it sold every ticket for each performance before transferring to New York. Following its successful New York run, Labute adapted the script into a screenplay and made a film version, which was released in summer 2003. The London staging, New York staging, and film version all featured the same four actors--Paul Rudd, Rachel Weisz, Gretchen Moll, and Fred Weller.

Theatre On Consignment's production is produced by special arrangement with Samuel French, Inc.

Tickets are $8 ($5 for students and seniors). Opening night tickets (Thursday, February 10) are “Buy 1, Get 1 Free”. Seating is limited, and tickets can be reserved by calling Theatre On Consignment at 265-2226. The play contains some adult language and themes and is intended for mature audiences.
