Theatre On
Consignment will conclude its 2003-2004 season with the first annual Poorman’s
Theatre Festival, a showcase for original plays by local playwrights.
The festival run May 20-23 at the Fisch Haus Gallery, located at 524 S.
Commerce, and will feature the plays “5 Conversations” by
Jason Bailey and “Bend” by Mark Frank.
The seriocomic drama “5 Conversations” eavesdrops on five
duets (occurring simultaneously, but seen individually) at a hotel bar
during happy hour, as seen by a wise bartender (Meridith Jones). Five
men (Alex Dryden, Jason Miller, Nate Cadman, Mac Welch, Kenneth Mitchell)
and five women (Zoe Burgess, Rebekah Dryden, Amy Grimm, Megan Upton-Tyner,
Anna Horsch) ponder life, love, hope, past, and future between shots and
beers. Jason Bailey directs.
“Bend” tells the story of would-be playwright Joline (Stacy
Champagne), who has just been rejected by a major publishing company and
decides to take drastic measures to have her voice heard. Joline and the
passengers she picks up along the way (Carrie Buettner, Danielle Schmdit,
Bryan Welsby, Amber Malott) take an intense, emotional journey that leads
to a surprising conclusion. Nathan Boren directs.
Per-show tickets are $5 ($4 for students and seniors), with festival tickets
available for $8 ($6 for students and seniors). Seating is limited, and
tickets can be reserved by calling Theatre On Consignment’s reservation
line at 265-2226. The plays contain some adult language and themes and
are for mature audiences.
